About Me

My name is Amanda Steffenson, I have been teaching at Harbord Public School, Sydney, NSW, Australia for the past 8 years. I feel very blessed to be working in such a great school with wonderful children and supportive colleagues.

From my classroom window I can see the sights of the city of Sydney, the green of the surrounding trees and if I listen closely the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach. I work in a special part of the world!

I am very lucky to have such a supportive family in my incredible husband Matthew, my beautiful mum, amazing dad and wonderful sister. Without these people in my life I would not be half the woman I am today.

Teaching is not my job, it is my passion! I love the joy that teaching Kindergarten brings to my life. The ups and downs, the smiles and the tears (and that is just from the teacher, only joking). The sense of achievement and endless joy that I receive when I see my students mastering a new concept is priceless.

If you were to walk a day in my teacher shoes...well, you would be tying a lot of little children's shoe laces, holding a lot of little hands and would be helping to shape a lot of little minds... If you were to wear one of my many teacher hats you would be wearing an educator hat, nurses hat, coaches hat, mentor hat, friend hat, innovator hat, counsellor hat and these hats are from just one daily teacher hat stand... there are many more teacher hats that I wear depending on the moment in time.

I am absurd, preposterous and silly, I say phrases all day that don’t make any sense unless you are five years old. “See ya round like a rissole.” “Are we ready spaghetti?” “You get what you get and you don’t get upset!”

I get excited about stationary, I have a fetish for laminating, I am a sticker giver and like my huge shoe collection at home, I also have a huge collection of stamps at school. I love shopping in cheap shops... not because I am cheap, but like any teacher I LOVE A BARGAIN and you never know when that little something that you buy may come in handy for your classroom.  I enjoy making and creating games and have spent MANY, MANY hours creating Literacy and Mathematics resources...

Kindergarten is the fundamental year of schooling. It is my role to ensure my students achieve their full potential in a happy and safe learning environment.
